Raw Cleansing – Mono Meals & Mandalas

On September 27th, at 8:18 PM, we welcomed my new grand-daughter to this world.  I got to be there to watch her amazing entry into this life.  She is healthy, precious and hoping to go home today with her Mom and Dad.  Can you tell I am happy?

Today I am going through my photos to see other raw items you might enjoy.  I must admit that most of what I make is from what’s on hand and my own intuition versus a recipe.  I would encourage you to do the same!

One concept we did not yet touch on is “mono meals.”  This is merely eating one item for the whole meal.  Often fruit is part of a mono meal, but veggies can also be eaten this way.  It is the low effort meal for sure and eating this close to nature saves you time and makes for easier digestibility.

So here are some of my favorite mono meals:

Cherry tomatoes fresh off the vine

Fresh cherries. Yum!

Usually about 3-5 oranges would make a meal. Each large orange is about 100 calories.

Fresh strawberries from the farmers market

Pomegranates are good for a Fall mono meal.

Pears are nice & yummy when they are in season!

Apples come in all kinds of flavors!

Cucumbers with Tuscan Salt make for a nice mono meal.

Also bananas, watermelon, and any berry, etc. make a wonderful mono meal.  Just aim for near 500 calories, which might mean you need 2 large plates worth, as a raw diet is about abundance, not limitations.

Another key concept is to enjoy the preparation of your meal by tuning into the food and having fun.  I have begun to think of every salad as a mandala.  Here are some examples for ideas to spark your own creativity.

Massaged kale with pineapple and pomegranates

Green salad with celery, onion, and sprouts.

Another “Mandala Salad” with what I had on hand. This one is for a potluck.  I add distinct layers and toss it just prior to eating.

Abundant salad for baby shower with sunflower seeds, avocado, carrots, purple cabbage, cherry tomatoes and green lettuce.

They say a meal is first eaten with the eyes…so make them salivate!  Cutting items into different shapes adds appeal.

Color adds appeal to the eyes and a variety of vitamins and minerals too!

Fruit salad in its natural form for a Christmas gathering. No dressing needed and it was eaten down to the plate with no bites left.

Preparing meals intuitively and eating intuitively add to the pleasure of the meal.   Unlike what your Mother said, it is good to play with your food!  The more you get involved with food preparation, the more you will enjoy the food and it’s health giving properties.
